Transmissions

Below is a table of detailed production periods for transmissions, by build location and code. See the Ratios page for additional info on all VW transmissions. This is just transmission production. Vehicle production dates may vary. Note that transmissions built prior to May, 1988 were used in 1989 USA built models.

NOTE: It appears that in early Model Year 1988 (before the removal of the upshift light), all except the diesel models were fitted with 90mm axles. With the removal of the upshift light in 11/87, everything except the PL engine had 90mm axles again.

Note: 1989 US cars were built from 5/88-7/88, but are identical to the 1988 models.
